Our
Story

Faith, Family, and Love
Returning to the Roots of Healthcare

The inspiration for Down Home Healthcare has always been my grandpa and grandma’s barn. This barn means so much more than just the structure that meets the eye. It is where I saw, lived out in person, the love of Jesus. Many days were spent playing in the fields around this barn, putting up hay in the barn, and planting and helping with the garden beside the barn. Not far from the barn stood the big white house where the door was always open to a table full of love and many tea parties with grandma. Through all those things my grandparents taught me not just about hard work, tea parties, growing gardens, and hay, but how to grow up in the Lord. They gave me the roots of faith, family, and love.

God always came first in our family, and there was never a question about that. I saw my family not just showing up at church when the doors were open, but truly living out a life of faith at home. Even through tragedy, their faith was never shaken. Closely behind our faith was family! As many of you know many people will say “you really are related to the whole town.” Family described not just our immediate and blood related family but went so much further. Family was anyone in our community that needed help! Friends, neighbors, and acquaintances always knew they had a seat at the table. Around the table there was always home cooked food, but more than that there was always love that fed the soul more than physical food ever would! Not just any love, God's love.

My story began on a farm, with family, and gave me the strongest roots I could ask for. The roots of faith, family, and love! These roots became my goal for the clinic. Roots where first and foremost I place God at the head of this clinic and dream! For with him truly all things are possible! Second, I wanted a place where each person that walks through that door knows they are so much more than a number or a patient. They are family! Family, a place where they always know they are welcome, cared for, and most importantly LOVED! Finally, love binds all things together. Life presents some hard things that we are all called to walk through. We at Down Home Healthcare want to be there for all those things, loving our patients through them. We want to celebrate when life gives wonderful things and provide a safe place of love when life gets hard. Most importantly, in all times, we want to show God's love.

Colossians 3:14 - "And above all these put on love, which binds everything together in perfect harmony."

About Us

For with God All Things are Possible

The Road that Led me back Home

Just off of the beaten path
A little dot on the state road map
That's where I was born and where I'll die

Things move at a slower pace
Nobody's in a rat race
And these days that's a special way of life

Down home
Where they know you by name and treat you like family
Down home
A man's good word and a handshake are all you need
Folks know
If they're fallin' on hard times, they can fall back home
Those of us raised up down home

(lyrics by Alabama song Down Home)

When I moved away after high school from Salem, I wasn’t sure where God would lead me on this wonderful adventure with him. As God slowly lit a fire in my soul for missions he blessed me with traveling to Mexico, Nicaragua, Brazil, and inner-city Chicago on mission trips that were simply life changing. For me, that’s where I thought my calling for providing healthcare would be. However, I never forgot the people Down Home, those people that raised me. It was while in nursing school over 20 years ago now that God led me to the Kitchen clinic in Springfield, Missouri. It was here that I saw the same love and compassion in the care being given that I saw in the mission field overseas. I knew “home” was now my mission field. God so clearly called me back to Salem, not just to be closer to family (which I love), but for a purpose. A purpose to one day open a clinic for him where I could provide healthcare to people the way I felt Jesus would if he were here! I wanted to be able to give back to the community that raised me. I say community, but really, they were all family, and still are! It didn’t matter if I was at school, home, a sports event, church, or Wal-Mart, I knew I had a whole town behind me cheering me on! People that not only cheered me on but showed up when life got hard to love me through some of the hardest times of my life. People who truly understood it really does take a whole village (and lots of prayer) to raise a child. So, for over 15 years now I have been praying, planning, and working hard to give back to our community, in the best way I can, the love you all have given me my whole life! I pray my hands can be a blessing to you all each day! I am beyond humbled and grateful that God has allowed me the chance to say thank you not just through words, but also through actions. I pray that Down Home Healthcare will always leave a legacy of love and service to our small town of Salem in a big way as we let God’s love shine through us!
